Certification of PRT to Carry Passengers

The Morgantown PRT/GRT has been certified for passenger service for over 30 years.

The Ultra PRT has received certification at its demonstration facility in Cardiff, Wales and its installation at London Heathrow Airport has been in operation since May of 2011.

The Vectus PRT system in Upsalla, Sweden has passed certification tests by the Swedish Rail Authority.

The monorail system at the Cal Expo State Fair Grounds in Sacramento is inspected and certified annually by the California Division of Industrial Safety.

  • The American Society of Civil Engineers ( ASCE ) has prepared and published the Automated People Mover Standards Link This Standard may be used in a safety certification process. It is helpful to anyone who owns, operates, maintains, designs, test, insures, oversees, or certifies APMs

  • The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has safety and security regulatory authority over all rail transit agencies in California and works in cooperation with the Federal Transit Administration and the transit agencies to enhance public safety and security.
  • New PRT systems in California, if they are not yet certified elsewhere, will most likely require certification by the CPUC in order to carry passengers in the State of California. CPUC certification may be necessary even if certification has already been obtained from another agency.
